Cultural Center of the Philippines
Much has been said about the Philippine's cultural diversity. This is largely because:
1.The Philippines is an archipelago of 7,107 islands. Divided into three major regions: Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. All three regions have distinct cultural identities, owing to the fact that they are separated from each other by water, thus making it easier for them to adopt to a distinct culture other than to mix and adopt to one identity.
2.The Philippines is a country which has been colonized or had been migrated to by another country's tribes. Indonesians, Malaysians, Spanish, Japanese and Americans to be more specific.
These reasons influence the singular identity of the Filipino, distinctly diverse because of the melting pot of race and experience but uniquely Filipino. This is why the Filipino culture must be preserved and protected by a center which supports the protection, growth and development of the rich culture and the arts of the Philippines.
The Cultural Center of the Philippines is the cultural seat of the Philippine arts. It aims at promoting the rich Philippine culture. This is done by means of showcasing talents through performances, exhibitions and other forms of presentations.
To date, the CCP is home to the following performance groups:
- Ballet Philippines
- Philippine Ballet Theatre
- Bayanihan Philippine National Folk Dance Company
